More than 200,000 Chinese holidaymakers visited in first nine months of 2015 and £2,700 spend per head is among highest of all UK tourists, says VisitBritain. This number of Chinese tourists visiting the UK soared 37% compared to the same period in 2014.
Most of those tourists speak very little English and they heavily rely on the holiday organizers to provide information. The popular destinations have so far been concentrated in those traditional hot spots like London, OxBridge and Edinburgh. In order to promote South West England better, we need to find new ways to connect directly with Chinese consumers. This new opportunity is social media.
By the end of March 2015, Sina Weibo daily active users and monthly active users reached 66.6 million and 143.8 million, compared with the same period last year increased by 37% and 34%, respectively. We strongly believe this stands for a very cost effective way to promote local brands and attractions.
